Change...

Funny... how knowing that you're suddenly being read by TONS more people than you were before makes you feel like you need to change.
Like suddenly, there are a bunch of people out there that you don't know reading things...
Funny.
Because there has ALWAYS been those people.
Now, there are just MORE.
Funny... how I suddenly feel the need to post greatness... to be astounding and whitty and be SURE to leave all my dullness behind.
But really, the way I got to this place was just by being me... and I really don't WANT to change things... and so I've decided.

I've decided
NOT
to change.

I'm going to keep posting what I'm INTERESTED in.
I'm going to keep posting boring posts about my family.
I'm going to keep telling those stories about my kids that only my mom and my best friend will appreciate.
I'm going to keep talking about art.
I'm going to keep sharing what INSPIRES me.
I'm going to share my scrapbook pages.
I'm going to post about thrifty goodness.
Some days, I might not even post!
Others, I may just **GASP!** post with NO PICTURES.
That's how I got here.
That's where I'm at now.
That's how it's going to be.

Soooo I give you...
BEACH pictures.
I never get tired of the details in drift wood...

When I was little we used to make much smaller version of these, and lately, we've been lucky enough to FIND them already MADE!! This one was tall enough for 6'4" Ian to stand in!!

and I never get tired of taking pictures of Hash's beautiful eyes... and he's so good about looking at me when I ask him.

He's also the ONLY dog we've ever owned that would play fetch. Which, I keep reminding myself of, every time he chews up ANOTHER pair of my shoes.
One day, he chewed FOUR PAIRS in one afternoon. Stupid Dog. (that fetches)

Yesterday, I sent in our notice of intent to homeschool Josh. Today, I talked to the AWESOME woman who WOULD HAVE been his teacher, and told her that I wasn't sending Josh to school, and I didn't want her to think it was because of her. Because if I WERE going to send him, SHE is the reason I would. I think he would love her.
I'm REALLY looking forward to the night before public school starts. Because the kids and I are TOTALLY going to get in on Guerilla Goodness and THIS project. Not only are we DOING IT, a friend of mine, from another town is coming to MY town to help us!! AND we're going to HER town the next night to do the same in HER town!! It's going to be fun. If you have a sec, you really should check out some of kindness girl's other GREAT ideas for guerilla goodness.
For OUR first day of UNSCHOOL... I think we'll have a PJ's and movies party.

Holy Blog Hits, Batman!!

Just YESTERDAY!!
YESTERDAY!!
THIS little blog made it onto the BLOGS OF NOTE list on Blogger!!
That in itself was PRETTY danged COOL...
and I knew I'd see some new traffic to the 'ole blog.
BUT
HOLY BLOG HITS, Batman!!
In the last two days, I've had over 7,ooo unique hits to the blog!! WOW.
Check it out!! lol I had to click the link to make sure that THAT Memories of Mine to Thine was THIS Memories of Mine to Thine!! lol
If you're here because of my new status, THANKS for clicking in!! Leave me a comment! I'd love to know you were here!

So I caught Macs snuggling with Otis the other day... and I haven't had a chance to share... aren't they adorable?

I've been working on a project I've had in my head for a while...

Yesterday, we went to the beach, and I got to eat some YUMMO crab...

Some new developments are in the WERKS... and I'm really excited about them!! I love the way things fall into place. Things like classes, and art stuff... and if I'm LUCKY publication in another magazine!! Cross your fingers.
I went thrifting today and found some good stuff too!! A new chair for photography... and some neato vintage goodies. I'll try to get some shots.

Thanks, Mom.

It's one of those afternoons, when I get on the computer, and get an email... and one thing leads to another, and I end up totally sidetracked, and it's been totally worth it.
My MOM started the chain of events today, when she sent me an email with a link in it.
Her link was to the website of Patience Salgado. In that link, as the idea of Guerilla Goodness. It's an idea I know... It's an idea I LOVE. You may remember one of my favorites...

and Patience is doing something for kids as they return to school... and even though our little boys are staying home with me this year, I think we'll be doing something like this that night... if you live near me (you know who you are if you do) contact me. We can do this together... Thanks, Mom... it was a good day getting sidetracked!!

Fresh Studio!!

I've been re organizing my studio for a few DAYS now... lol I found an AWESOME waterfall dresser for cheap at a local thrift store, and decided to get it to help with my need for better vertical storage. I didn't get a true BEFORE photo...
Here is how it looked before I added the dresser. This is an old photo. The area was NOT this clean when I started!! I've also added some things on the left of the desk...
BEFORE
My Studio by you.
IN PROGRESS

AFTER

yeah. I added a LOT to this side...

I've also added a rolling table to the "front" of my desk that I roll away, and sit between while I work.

My favorite part: the new doll's nest on top of the dresser.

I moved the old headboard that used to be where the waterfall dresser is, to the computer desk... it makes that area a lot neater too...
Something about cleaning makes me more creative... so I can't wait to have a moment to play in my area!!
Whatch been doing to get your groove on?

They're TOGETHER!!

Got a bunch of us (I think there will be about 23 of us all together) together to submit as a group to a doll magazine!! Well, D Day is drawing near, and she is getting them ready to submit... and shared with us the dolls as a group!! WOW!! I'm so excited to be part of this!! Thanks so much, Jane!

(mine is the one in read and yellow smack dab in the middle!) Wish us luck!!

Sooooo

Don't they look DELICIOUS!?!? I can't wait to get the wire cutters I need for taking this apart... Not to mention all the wires and wood I'll be able to salvage too!!

I've been BUSY today... (and last night too...)
Got entirely sidetracked.
BUT.
I think it was in a good way.
It all started when I was sitting waiting for Ian's computer to finish defragmenting... I had gone through all my bloglines, and wanted some inspiration. So I went to my MOM'S BLOG. She has a good list of blogs that I know I would like, and haven't had the time to subscribe to, so I thought, why not? I'll start checking some of them out.
Then, I saw a gal I hadn't visited for a while...
Sooooo
I hopped over to her blog. She had posted an AWESOME doll she made, and so I wanted to comment. While I was commenting, I saw a profile picture that just MAKES you stop and look.
Sooooo
I clicked on it, and it took me to her profile, where her website was listed...
Sooooo
I clicked on that, and saw THIS website, and I thought to myself...
Self, THAT is a website that MAKES SENSE!!
(because you see, I've been trying to decide if I need an artist website/cover page kind of thing for a while now.)
Sooooo
I hopped over to blogger, created ANOTHER blog, bought the domain name for it, and proceeded to hack the crap out of it so that I could make a web page I liked!! In the process of moving links and things, I realized that my portfolios are outdated.
Sooooo
I updated and moved somethings in flickr (I'm still not totally done there) and created better links. While I was doing THAT, I made some portfolio changes to my photography site. While I was doing THAT, I got an email that said it was time to renew my photography domain.
BUT
It had been brought to my attention that there is ANOTHER 1000 words photography in Oregon fairly near to me, and so I had decided that when the time came, I would change my domain name. Hello, Time!! So glad you came!!
Sooooo
No time like the present to do THAT. Right? Got my NEW Photography website changed, to ChatterBoxPictures.com and in the change, a lot of links didn't work.
Sooooo
Since I had updated some of my photography portfolios, I figured no time like the present to clean up the "new" site, and make the changes I need to there!!
NOW
It's a billion hours later, and I'm BEAT!!
BUT
My WEBSITE is up.
My BLOG is up to date with fresh links. (some of them moved to new lists)
and I have a shiny fresh PHOTOGRAPHY site too.
I still have a few links on line to change over, and I STILL haven't finished going through mom's link list...
Sooooooo

SOMEONE ELSE'S mattress

I can't find my Duo Pro adapter to load my photos of our trip to the local wild park, so I went out today and took some photos of just a sampling of the goodies I've collected this summer... thrifting, garage sale shopping and even stopping at the FREE TAKE IT!! signs along the road.
One of the things I have been on the look out for at the local thrift stores is a box spring mattress that REALLY has springs in it. Not because I really hope to have the WORST sleep ever, but because I want to use the SPRINGS in something. I don't even know WHAT I WANT TO USE THEM FOR... I just want them, OK? This summer, while I was out at the Myrtle Point City Wide Garage Sale, I spotted a mattress on the curb, with a FREE sign on it!! So of course I snatched it up...
EXCEPT THAT.
I had the kids...
and my friend Kerin...
and it didn't fit in the VAN with all those BODIES in there...
BUT
I have a friend in that town... (who shall remain nameless since I don't know if she'd like you to know exactly what town she lives in...)
This friend just HAPPENED to be at her father's garage sale just down the street from
THE MATTRESS.
So I shoved as much of the mattress as I COULD...
into the back of the van and over the top the back seat and the top of the boy's heads...
(yes. I made them scrinch down so I could shove SOMEONE ELSE'S mattress over them)
and drove very slowly (with the back of the van open too) back to the father's house.
Poor man. He really didn't have a choice...
and proceeded to ask him if I could leave SOMEONE ELSE'S mattress at his house until I could come back without people and get it.
Turns out that friend who will not be named was going to be passing my way a couple days later, and she dropped it off so I didn't have to drive back.
See?
With friends like that, how can you NOT pick up SOMEONE ELSE'S mattress off the side of the road?
Once I have a moment, I'll take that sucker apart and show you all the SPRINGS I own now!!

Two of my favorite finds...
This glass who knows what... with really cool writing on it!!
And all those tiny doll arms!! Just WAITING to be put to good use. This is my favorite shot from the batch I took.

Some closer shots of the whole bunch... LOVE me some metal... that door knob and plate were one of the things I scored from the FREE bin...

and Josh scored himself a STEERING WHEEL. Genuine used to be in a TRUCK steering wheel...
BUT HEY.
When you just spent the afternoon figuring out how you're going to keep SOMEONE ELSE'S mattress...
you really don't have a lot of room to talk...

The Art of Choice

A lot of people out there talk about HOW to be creative, and a lot of them will tell you that you have to have TIME to be creative. Or rather, they make excuses about why they AREN'T good enough to be creative. I thought I would share a little bit about MY creativity and it's process.

First of all, I have to tell you my thoughts on what defines a successful "artist". I have recently come to start understanding that for me to be able to call myself and artist, I do not have to be making a LIVING at it. In fact, to be clear, I absolutely am NOT making a living at it. Sure, I sell my work here and there, but I am by no means living off of that money. Any income I've made has really only ever bought MORE art supplies... but that's OK!! To be an artist, and to be living off of my art are two separate things. I do not believe they are connected in such a way that one cannot live without the other. I believe that artistic success can only be defined by the individual creating.

So what IS my definition of an artist? I believe that there is an artist in ALL of us. It's in our nature as humans to be creative. Somewhere a long our journey into adulthood, we start to believe that aren't ABLE to be artists. Because we can't draw a horse and have it LOOK like the horse in the photograph we are trying to copy. Because someone told us we wouldn't be able to make a living being creative. Because we mistakenly think that to be an artist, one has to knock out masterpieces EVERY time we make something. We believe that because someone ELSE says that our art isn't up to par, we can't stake our claim in our creativity. Instead, I believe that what makes a person an artist is whether they are able to appreciate the PROCESS that they take on their way to creating. It's not so much the END result as it is the process of getting there. It's not so much in the FINISHING as it is in the flow of creativity that the ACT of creating brings forth.

So the truth is, that "the masters" have MANY MANY MANY pieces that never saw the light of day. They started things and didn't finish. They painted over paintings they didn't like. They PRACTICED over and over and again. Some of them painted things in ways that didn't LOOK like they do in real life... I believe it's because they KNEW. They knew that so much of their art is the PROCESS. Creativity in it's RAW form is all about the process.

A child understands this. You can see it in the joy that shines out a little one's eyes as they see the result that placing a crayon to a page and scribbling with wild abandon gives them. You can see their understanding in the thrill they get from paint squished between their fingers... They never question if they have the "right" tools... they don't ask for better paper. They understand that it's about the PROCESS... They marvel in the muddy brown that all their colors together create...

So I encourage you. Find your inner child. Allow them to find your inner artist. You do not NEED anything more. You do not NEED for "them" to tell you are good enough. YOU are the artist you need to be... PRACTICE. Allow yourself to claim your creativity. Allow yourself to OWN it. It's yours. Whether you find it in a scrapbook page, in vintage finds made into something new, in yarn, in writing, in planting and growing, in capturing a picture... YOU CAN DO IT. I know you can.

It's not about HAVING time... because there is NEVER time. Never, until you MAKE time. And this part is very important. So many times, I hear people tell me they WISH they had time to be creative like I do... but I'm TELLING you... you must MAKE time...
There is NEVER time for ANYTHING unless you make time. If it's important to you to grow this part of yourself, you WILL make time. I do not have hours of blocks of time in a day to create and be creative. A lot of times, I have to grab bits and pieces in a day... while food is cooking, I paint a leg. Quick before work, I post a photo. I carry my camera with me in my purse. I pack every moment I can into the places I can fit them. Some days, I will not be creative. For example. As I type this, I have not "created" anything since the 26th of last month. I probably won't have a "free" day for a while... but I don't work until 4:00 tomorrow. I COULD squeeze something in before work... A lot of times, I create at the expense of something else. At this moment, I have a sink full of dishes. I have floors that haven't been swept in DAYS... (and that's sugar coating it) A lot of nights I listen to the TV rather than watch it.

There are things that you have to choose to let go of... for me, that's often a tidy house. I create on top of messes if I have a moment, and choose to create instead of catch up. We can't do it all. Our day to day lives tell others what we've chosen to be important to us.
But that's just it. It's a choice. So what are YOU choosing?
It's OK to choose to catch up. It's OK to choose career. It's OK to choose family. It's OK... but please understand... it's a CHOICE. All of it. And how you CHOOSE is what decides. TIME doesn't decide for you. If you CHOOSE to have it there, creativity is there. You can include your children in it. You can include family time in it. I've only just figured all this out... it probably hit me while I was in the shower... seems a lot of my big thoughts hit me there. I'm not even confident this makes much of any sense... but I have had it weighing on my heart for over a month now.

So what are YOU choosing?
