When I heard about
The Next Chapter's project to work through
Keri Smith's Wreck This Journal, I knew I wanted to do it. I also knew I needed to take the boys on this journey with me. So I purchased a book for Josh and Ian.
I plan to make a journal for Macs by writing down the prompts that he can do, and allowing him to play with us that way. I even broke down and bought Macs his own copy. I've been really excited about the boy's having their very own copies of the book. I just knew that this book is a book for them. I was so right. Josh opened his journal, and promptly asked if he could start NOW. Of course I said yes, and he turned to the page that says "pour, spill, drip, spit, spill your coffee here."
and he
SPIT.
ALL OVER IT.
And that is why I love that boy. He never once asked WHY I would want to take a book and "ruin" it. Instead, he read the first page of the book, and wanted to jump right in with me. Ian is ready too. Ready to let loose and forget the "rules" and just enjoy a process.
And we'll do it together. Here on this blog, along with many many others who are taking part in this adventure...
And I'm doing it with my boys. This book was MADE to be worked on with kids. And I decided that my kids were totally worth the price of their OWN original books.

you are the ROCKINEST mom in all of motherdom! that is just the best thing i've read all day. hope you all enjoy wrecking your journals - i did this one about a year ago, and loved it! maybe i'll get another copy and play along again? :)
Fantastic that you all have your own and will experience this together. My "boys" 21, 20 and 13 think it's the coolest thing going. My 21 year old is going to do his own version with a cool felt journal he has had for awhile now. Have fun!!!!
Peace~

This is so exciting.
I really want to give one of these books a go.
What a great idea! I had thought I'd let my daughters do the "Give this to a friend" page. Having their own book would be way more fun for them! I think it would be a great summer project for all of us. I'll have to see if I can get two more.
Oh, wow! Your kids are going to have a blast. What a great idea to get your kids in on it.
Thanks for linking to the challenge. There are a TON of people already signed up! I'm playing with the idea of doing it as well.
This is so cool to do it with your boys. I would love to do it as well.
That absolutely totally rocks!! You guys are going to have a BLAST! Is it weird that your son is inspiring me to spit?
Maybe I'll get mine out and start working on it again. I haven't played in it lately except to add fruit stickers and boy is that page looking cool! In fact, I've got two pages nearly full of them. I may start sticking them to card stock and use it in a collage or greeting card or ??? Does Ian remember donating some of his pocket lint to my book or Making A Sudden, Destructive, Unpredictable Moment With It? Fun stuff!
I totally agree! this book is so much fun to do with kids..my son has been asking to help since the day we received the book and my youngest daughter helped me with the first few pages we did on friday (boy was at school..)
can't wait to see all your pages!
Very cool. This book is sitting on my Amazon wish list. I need to get it. Great idea having your little ones do it. They'll do something completely unique and creative, for sure. I love the book you made using the kit in your recent post. Glitter mist rocks. :)
Can you believe i already bought Keri's "How To Be An Explorer Of The World-Portable {art} Life Museum" book a couple of months ago... with the idea of doing some of the exercises with the kiddos over the summer?! Some of them are artsy and some of them just like to collect stuff and investigate, so i thought it would be a perfect activity to help keep US {wink, wink} busy....;)
Can you adopt me? I don't hate my parents, but they don't get the whole "wrecking" thing.
that is so very cool!! i can't wait to share the rest of the journey with you!!
What a cool idea! I may have to get one of these for Marissa....this could be very theraputic for her!
That's great. Rachel, to be wrecking with your boys. Everyone around me thinks I've lost my marbles and see no point in what I'm doing... so, I'm coming to live with you!!!!
Have fun and I can't wait to see all the things that the three of you do with your books. (I love the 'spit' part ~ three cheers!)
Barb:-)
What a great idea doing it with your kids. Thanks for the inspiration.
