Some of you may remember that I was hoping to take in a dog that a friend of mine helped rescue what was abandoned at the local dump. While he's still with my friend, he didn't mesh well with our dog that we have already. We'll just say she's a persistently excited to see you dog, and it can come off as aggressive, even though it's just aggressively happy to see you and stick her nose in your butt and maybe try to hump you a little... (not people, animals) Well, Dump Dog (his name is Buddy now) didn't really take to kindly to that, and when he didn't, Doobie didn't take to kindly to him not taking it kindly... and well. You see where this is going.
I hadn't given up on wanting a large dog in the house again. I didn't realize what peace of mind Kenya, our Rottweiler gave me when Travis was at work during the night, or we left Ian in charge for a few hours while we went someplace without the kids... She had to be put to sleep last year, and I have decided we work well with a big dog. Doobie did well with Kenya, and she gets along great with other dogs... IF they can handle HER persistence long enough for her to get bored with them and back off!! lol
Yesterday, Travis called the gal who runs the local shelter, and there was a dog there, about 1 year old, 50lb mix of lab and something else, (she's not what the "else" is) dog and people friendly, ball lover. If he could handle Doobie, there was a good chance he would be our guy! I was kinda hoping it's good karma that his name happens to be HANK which is one of the names I considered for Buddy... The shelter gal thought he would be a good family dog. I really like his age, because he's older, but still young enough. We've NEVER had a dog that would fetch. EVER. Travis and I have always WISHED the dogs would fetch, and they don't. So the ball thing is a plus too. He's big, but not SO big. He's neutered, has a micro chip and all but one last set of shots. I took Doobie to the shelter with the boys to see how everyone got along. He was AWESOME with Doobie. Just assertive enough to tell her to back off, and not so assertive that I worry he will hurt her. He's GREAT with the kids, and energetic, and yet calm. Such a neat guy. I'm really happy to have found him!! I can't believe he sat in the shelter here for 3 months!! Since December!!
I know. I know. Enough, right? Photos, right? hee hee OK. Here you go!! It was pretty tough to get good shots of him today, because he's really interested in exploring the yard... but I caught one, and got a few of him next to me... :) I think I'm in love.
