Thrifting HEAVEN

Thrifting is one of my FAVORITE past times... and yesterday, I stopped at my local thrift store... and found so GREAT items!! (I forgot to put the candle sticks in the photo...) I found three like the one I used on the base of the bird cage, for $0.80 each!! Found some buttons... a neat jar... a salt shaker to add to my collection. (I keep my dirt collection in salt and pepper shakers and other cool little jars) AN EGG BASKET!! Another pretty neat wire basket that will be great for holding more mini books and journals... AND that Ice Chest!!! I collect those too... old rusty metal ones. They hold my gardening supplies outside on the front porch. Yep. It was a good day today. Bought two pear necklaces too. One of them is on the birdcage. Less than $20.00 for the whole haul...
It's good to love trash.

Getting back to ME

It's taking a while, but I'm slowly getting back to ME.
Sorted through my scrap supplies.
20 POUNDS of stuff.
That's what it all weighed when I was finished!!
5,000 alphabet letters later
ALL
MY
LOOSE
ALPHAS
ARE SORTED.
I can find them now!!
(i didn't KEEP all 5,000)
I can FIND what I want, and USE it too!!
The box below weighed 14 pounds!!

I re organized my ribbons, because I was getting so many, that my plastic bag system was causing trouble in the FINDING THE RIGHT ONE dept!! I used shower rings from the thrift store, hung on metal embroidery hoops. Total cost: $0.75

My collection of Dr. Seuss books... One day they will be altered into something new!

My Mini Books

I added a suitcase... isn't it the cutes pink case EVER!?!?

My clip it up is FULL

In other news, Macs is bald in one spot on his head... I had to shave his hair to place a butterfly bandage on a cut he got after falling backward onto the concrete out front. :::sigh::: that boy. He tries so hard to keep up with those big brothers!! lol

Lastly, I have a little give away for you!! I have an extra gold display like the one holding up my Art Journal (notice I FINALLY got around to decorating the cover!!) Leave me a comment, and I will pick a winner... you can have your own display!! (journal not included)
HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!

I LOVE Elephants...

Linda and Karen, authors of my FAVORITE art journal book, Journal Revolution, (how COOL is it, that I can call them FRIENDS!?!) blogged about Elephant Girls recently. I just have to say, that it was one of the BEST things I've read in a while, and it made my heart happy to know that I am one of them!! I even get to interview them for Tally, and there will be Journal goodness on the first of the month when our next prompt comes out for the ArtJournals there!!

Macs at the Oregon Coast Aquarium... He was in SUCH awe of it all, and absolutely fell in LOVE with the otter... It came right up to him at the glass, and he just didn't want to leave it for the longest time. I loved every second of that trip.

In case you were wondering...

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Midland

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

Whale, I'm not TOO LATE!!

Whales along the coastline
WOOOO HOOOOO!!! We didn't MISS IT!! I thought we had for sure... When I was a kid, we used to visit a place here in Oregon, called Bandon. There's a lighthouse there, on the mouth of the Coquille River, and a jetty. I think the jetty isn't as safe as it used to be for walking on, but when I was little, we would walk on it, and have fun exploring. One year, when I was probably about 10-12, we were camping in a nearby state park. We went out on that jetty, and while we were out there, noticed a GREY WHALE and her CALF swimming in the river's mouth!! The whale and her calf were SO CLOSE, it was just breath taking. Something I will NEVER forget.
There happen to be at least two, I think more whale watching areas along the coast line near to us. One of them has a sheltered building for bad weather watching. There are two times every year for good whale spotting, and one of them is in the spring. The first year we moved here, we moved here just a tad too late for the spring run. Last year, I thought about it too late AGAIN, and this year, I was SURE I had missed it all over... BUT I checked on line today.... and it's NOT TOO LATE!! In fact, I checked JUST in time!! So sometime between this weekend, and the end of the month, I will be taking my kids to the lookout. Cross your fingers, I hope they get to spot a whale...

Creatively

I have been pretty busy!! Made myself an new avatar for St.Patrick's Day yesterday, and made an all green dinner that included GREEN CHICKEN... it was delish!!
and
super
fun
too!

This AMAZING layout was what I got after the group of gals at the Dells all got together on our last night, and had a TallyGoRound!! It started out with the photo, and the pink background paper. Then it got passed off, and each gal had it and added something to it in five min. After each five min, they stopped, finished or not, and passed the page onto the next gal. At the end, we went through each page, and shared what we had added. It was so much FUN, and even MORE fun to share afterwards, and hear about the thought process on them!! Every page turned out totally different from the next, even though they were all touched by the same people!!

I finished this page during the cyber crop for Tally!! Minda has created a challenge on the message boards, where you can challenge the person who posts in front of you to a scrap page that you think will be hard for them. By doing so, you sign up to BE challenged also! My challenger was rajah1116 on Tally, and she challenged me to scrap a page with lyrics from GOD BLESS AMERICA and told me that I was not allowed to use more than one of the colors red, white, or blue. I think this is one of my faves. Just FYI, I fixed the first line of journaling.

I created this today!!! It's been a long time since I've created something JUST BECAUSE I wanted to. FOR ME. It's a holder for my DOM cards. They out grew my tiny holder WAY back in the running last year, and I FINALLY have a home for them. One that I have room to ADD to!!
Can't
beat
that.

Small Talk

Macs has been REALLY into making this face just about every time I turn around. You don't even have to be holding a camera. Then I noticed that he REALLY has my nose... ha ha!! Makes me smile.

I've been thinking lately. I hear something all the time from people. I think it's being abused. The comment usually goes something like this... "It's a small town....... (fill in the end.)" It's usually said in reference to being nice to someone, or not hurting their feelings. First of all, you can't please everyone. No matter HOW small your town is. Second of all, I've lived in WAY smaller towns, and the size of the town has nothing to do with whether or not everyone gets along.

Personally, I think that no matter WHERE you live, you should treat others the way you'd like to be treated. You should worry about what those CLOSE to you, and those who love you will think and feel about what you say or do. There's no excuse for using life in a small town as an excuse to manipulate others into letting you treat them however you choose. As a way to keep the REST of the town from finding out the way you've behaved toward another. Seems to me, that so far, whenever I've heard this phrase used, it hasn't REALLY been because that person wants to get along. It's seemed to me, that they would just have liked the opposing side to be quiet, and take their medicine quietly, so that no one else finds out about it. No matter WHERE you live, you affect people. No matter WHERE you live, you have to live with the consequences of YOUR actions and words. No matter WHERE. No matter WHERE you live, there is someone who sees the true you. He knows your heart. He's the one that matters most. HE is the one who will judge you in the end. He is the one who will ask you to explain yourself. Size has nothing to do with it.

What living in a small town DOES mean, is that everyone eventually hears about what's going on in most everyone else's lives. The good AND the bad. It means that when this happens, the people who REALLY care about, come to your aide or call to congratulate you. It means having neighbors who know you by name. It means that if you go to the store in your PJ's, chances are, you'll see your child's teacher, or the pastor's wife. It means that when you have an emergency, your neighbors bring you food, and check on you. It means that when you go out with one group of friends, chances are, you will see another group of friends too. It means that your pharmacist knows your family's prescriptions WITHOUT looking at the computer.
And.... no matter WHAT you do, WHO you avoid, or how happy you pretend to be, in the end, you are still stuck with yourself. Happy or unhappy, negative or optimistic. No matter what you write on your blog, or email to others, or tell someone near to you. No matter WHERE you go, THERE YOU ARE. We just can't get around that, and the size of your town really has nothing to do with anything.

FrankenTravis

We went to the Dr's yesterday to have a new cast, and Travis requested that I bring the camera for photos. Uh huh. I love that man. So here it is, cast off for a few moments, while they took Xrays to check on that pin coming out the side of his wrist. It's going through the top of both bones, helping to stabilize the dislocation. It's backed out a little bit, and the Dr. didn't want to leave it there if it had come out too far. He says it's fine.

Pretty isn't it!?! I told the Dr that I thought (because Travis could feel that it was sticking out further) that maybe the backing out was partly from the swelling going down, and then, because of the movement FROM the swelling going down, it had had room to back out a little... the Dr. told Travis, that I have very good medical common sense. hee hee... See dad? I DID listen to you growing up... (actually, what the Dr. said, is that so far, every time I've asked if my thoughts on what's going on are right, they have been.) Bwahahahahahahah

This is a photo of the X rays BEFORE they did anything to fix it.

This is the way it looks NOW.

Nasty. And that's a direct quote from the Dr.
