Macs has been REALLY into making this face just about every time I turn around. You don't even have to be holding a camera. Then I noticed that he REALLY has my nose... ha ha!! Makes me smile.
I've been thinking lately. I hear something all the time from people. I think it's being abused. The comment usually goes something like this... "It's a small town....... (fill in the end.)" It's usually said in reference to being nice to someone, or not hurting their feelings. First of all, you can't please everyone. No matter HOW small your town is. Second of all, I've lived in WAY smaller towns, and the size of the town has
nothing to do with whether or not everyone gets along.
Personally, I think that no matter WHERE you live, you should treat others the way you'd like to be treated. You should worry about what those CLOSE to you, and those who love you will think and feel about what you say or do. There's no excuse for using life in a small town as an excuse to manipulate others into letting you treat them however you choose. As a way to keep the REST of the town from finding out the way you've behaved toward another. Seems to me, that so far, whenever I've heard this phrase used, it hasn't REALLY been because that person wants to get along. It's seemed to me, that they would just have liked the opposing side to be quiet, and take their medicine quietly, so that no one else finds out about it. No matter WHERE you live, you affect people. No matter WHERE you live, you have to live with the consequences of YOUR actions and words. No matter WHERE. No matter WHERE you live, there is someone who sees the true you. He knows your heart. He's the one that matters most. HE is the one who will judge you in the end. He is the one who will ask you to explain yourself. Size has nothing to do with it.
What living in a small town DOES mean, is that everyone eventually hears about what's going on in most everyone else's lives. The good AND the bad. It means that when this happens, the people who REALLY care about, come to your aide or call to congratulate you. It means having neighbors who know you by name. It means that if you go to the store in your PJ's, chances are, you'll see your child's teacher, or the pastor's wife. It means that when you have an emergency, your neighbors bring you food, and check on you. It means that when you go out with one group of friends, chances are, you will see another group of friends too. It means that your pharmacist knows your family's prescriptions WITHOUT looking at the computer.
And.... no matter WHAT you do, WHO you avoid, or how happy you pretend to be, in the end, you are still stuck with yourself. Happy or unhappy, negative or optimistic. No matter what you write on your blog, or email to others, or tell someone near to you. No matter WHERE you go, THERE YOU ARE. We just can't get around that, and the size of your town really has nothing to do with anything.
